Death Of Two Denaby Screenmen

July 1896

Mexborough & Swinton Times July 17th 1896

Death Of Two Denaby Employees.

It does not often happen, except as the result of an accident, that two workmen from the same firm die on one day.

This, however, was the case on Sunday last, when the death took place of William Ottley (aged 73), of the Board School House, Pit Street, Mexborough, from inflammation; and Reubin Hall (aged 26), residing at 2, Adams Yard, Mexborough, from typhoid fever, both screenmen at the Denaby Main Colliery.

The former, who had been employed at this colliery for many years, had been off work suffering from a complicated disease, about five weeks, but Hall’s illness was of a short duration, he being at work up to about nine days prior to his death.

The latter leaves a widow with a young family. Both funerals took place on Tuesday at the Mexborough cemetery.
