Denaby & Cadeby Ambulance Corps Inspection in Rain.

Between 400 and 500 nurses and men of the Denaby and Cadeby Ambulance Corps braved the dreadful weather conditions on Sunday, and attended the annual inspection of the Corps held on the Racecourse at Doncaster. The inspecting officer was Chief Assistant Commissioner H. C. Else, of Sheffield, who accompanied by Mr. W. H. Chambers, assistant commissioner on the reserve list, who has resigned during the past year, and during an address to the men, referred to the debt the movement owed to Mr. Chambers.

The programme was cut short, and the work done was carried out in the stands. The other officers present were: H. Chambers, Captain O. Buckston (Sheffield), County Surgeons Wood (Warsop), Huey (Mexborough), District Superintendent Severn (Denaby), H. Hulley (Cadeby), Corps Superintendents G. H. Milnes (Denaby), W. Wilkinson (Cadeby), C. Farrell (Conisborough), W. Simpkins )Mexborough), Drs. Hamiton (Wath), Bramham (Goole), Pettit (Bentley), J. Gawthorpe (Yorkshire Main), G. Davies (Askern), First Officer Cusworth (Rossington), Sergeant Powell (Maltby), Staff Sergeant Balderson (Goldthorpe), Lady Superintendents Farrell (Denaby), Troughton (Conisborough), Yates (Mexborough) and Phillips (Askern).

The Chief Assistant Commissioner presented to Private Withington, of Goldthorpe, the Naval Long Service Medal. (A photograph and sketch of Mr. Withington’s career appears in this issue.)

In his address to the men, the Commissioner said: ‘ Don’t forget you are the only real volunteer force in the county today, that the uniform you wear is just as honourable as any in His Majesty’s realm, that you are ready trained for service next week if necessary, that you don’t get any subsidy or assistance in any way from the Government.’
