Sparkle at Denaby

There was sparkle in plenty at Tickhill square on Saturday. In spite of the dull weather. After dismissing Rockingham for 112, Denaby went on to score 113 in 90 minutes. R. Howson and R Cory scoring 102 of them.

Notable among Rockingham’s performances was J Ivill’s 44. Batting continuously and scoring mainly in singles, he saw four wickets fall before being caught by Robinson Bullard. Sixth man in, N. Winterton, helped the score along but after hitting 28 he fell victim to Robinsons bowling. J. Woodhouse was caught by Hawke of Robinson and was followed to the pavilion a few minutes later by J Allsopp, dismissed lbw by Robinson who completed his hat-trick. The last two wickets fell for three, both being taken by Bullard, who had 4 for 35. P. Robinson dismissed 3 for 15 and I. Eyre, H. Newton and F. Turner took one each.

Scoring all round the wicket, R Cory hit his 55 in 90 minutes. Batting confidently, he gave the crowd a succession of thrills and had six fours and a couple of sixes to his credit. Scoring less spectacularly R Howson hitting his 36 in singles for the main part, and played a more cautious game than his partner. Allsopp took the one Denaby wicket (F. Roberts two).
