Notable Efforts by Wathey and Clarkson

Denaby & Cadeby  148  Scarborough  223

Denaby were beaten in the last five minutes of the game at Tickhill Square.

Vollans in two overs dismissed Scarborough’s first wicket pair, and Greenwood seemed to make a mistake when he took off ‘Vollans for Reg. Probert. Haigh and G. Allan used the long handle, and 61 were hit off Williams in five overs. Probert was easily played. One hundred and twenty went up in an hour, and Allan scored 50 in 27 minutes. Greenwood tried seven bowlers, and it was Wathey who separated the two. Wathey’s bowling was treated respectfully by the other batsmen, and he finished with five wickets for 2S runs, and Vollans’s two cost only 9 runs.

Denaby started disastrously, with Greenwood and Vollans out for 19. Williams and Clarkson made the best partnership. Clarkson saw three more wickets fall, and with Wathey as his last partner made a determined effort to force a. draw, only to be beaten in the last five minutes.

Barber took three wickets for 89 runs.
