Denaby and Cadeby 170 for 9   Swinton 73

The big bid which Denaby and Cadeby are making for the Premier honours of the Mexborough and District League is having a satisfactory effect upon the attendance at their matches, and on Saturday when the return match was played with Swinton, there was one of the best gates of the season. Since last season much had been done to improve the Denaby ground, which now is dead level outfield on the pavilion site, while the slope on the co-operative Terrace side favours the batsmen to an extent which is not likely to move the visiting team to complaint.

There might be a better turf on the outfield, all round the ground, but doubtless its barren condition is to a great extent due to the recent dryness of the weather, and taken as a whole it must be admitted that the Denaby Cricket ground is now a capital enclosure and bids fairly near future to be as good as any in the Mexborough and District League.

Denaby again and the good fortune to win the toss, and they batted first. Arthur Robinson hit hard and often and reach the half Hundred after just an hour’s batting, but when his score stood at 59 Fred Turner brought his innings to a close with the ball which the batsmen pulled onto his wicket. Denaby declared when there score had reached 170 for nine.

When Swinton batted Scott came out with a remarkable analysis of four wickets for one run, but the bowling honours belonged to Luther Robinson, whose four wickets for 17 were the result of a consistent spell of magnificent bowling and Swinton were all out for 73.
