A Brilliant Catch.
Denaby Tail to the Rescue.

Denaby 174    Rossington 138

W Criddle 73

Outstanding features in the game at Tickhill square in which Denaby defeated Rossington by 36 runs with 15 minutes to spare, were the sound batting of Harry Mee, who was discovered playing in knockout cricket, and a wonderful one-handed catch by Jones, who brought the Rossington innings to a close. Jones ran 20 yards and held the ball but fell full-length. He had to be carried off, having strained himself.

Wainwright, who was on holiday, and Dickinson, who is unable to play owing to pressure of work, were notable absentees in Denaby side, their places being filled by Jones and Mee, who both justified their inclusion. With only 54 runs on the board we moored, Wright, Mountney, Criddle, Allen, and Reville were back in the pavilion and the position looked bad for Denaby.

Probert was joined by Pattison, who made a welcome return to the side, and they added 52 for the seventh wicket when the latter was run out. Patterson, in his 30, had five boundaries. Jones helped Probert to add another 36, Probert completing his 50. Jones was then lbw and then Mee made seven while Probert added 23 before being bowled by Dick Kelly. Thus the last four wickets put on twice as many as the first six. Robinson took four for 40, Widdowson three for 33 and Kelly 1 for 7.

Jim Harkin, the Doncaster footballer, opened with Robinson a native of Denaby, for Rossington, and with only eight under board Robinson was smartly stumped by Alan. Three runs laterProbert caught Jarvis in the slips, then a stand for 30 was made by Harkin and Clarkson, the latter being run out. Barratt, the big hitter, stayed at the wicket while Shivers and Widdowson departed, and made a stand of 34 with Blount. Blount had four boundaries in his 18, while Barrett had six fours and 16 in his 34. Dick Kelly scored a lively 17 and Medford in 14. For Denaby, Reville took three for 43, Mountford one for 43, Probert two for 20 and Mee 1 for 9.
