Denaby 223 for 8   Frickley 178

J Wright 103

After their evening league defeat, Denaby made amends by defeating Frickley at Denaby on Saturday, mainly due to the fine partnership of Wright and Mountney. Wright treated the spectators to some quick scoring, the first 50 going up early. At 52 Greenwood fell to Hatfield, after making 11 while Wright made 37. The following partnership of 122 by Wright and Mountney lasted 65 minutes. At 178 Mountney was bowled by Britton when he had made 88 (including 10 fours) and 10 minutes later Wright, who had been at the wicket 103 minutes, completed his first century in the Council. After adding another three runs Wright was bowled by Cardwell. He was batting 110 minutes and hit 14 boundaries. The remaining batsmen contributed 31 and with the score at 223 for 8 wickets Denaby captain declared, leaving Frickley with ample time to get the runs.

Frickley went “all out” from the opening but with only 19 on the board Taylor was caught by Holland off Mountney after scoring 14. Two runs later Allen claimed his first victim in Smith. Ward and Johnston figured in a useful partnership. At 88 Mountney took his fourth wicket when Alan smartly stumped Johnston, who had made 36. Britton and Burkinshaw were dismissed cheaply, Ward made 47 before being bowled by Mountney. Cardwell and Martin added 40 for the eighth wicket partnership, and a further 17 runs brought the end of Frickley’s innings. Mountney had a good day, scoring 66 and taking seven wickets for 76 runs for Frickley, Cardwell had 5 for 49.
