Denaby & Cadeby  91 for 5  Rossington 90

Rossington, who provided the holiday fixture at Denaby on Monday, came with no less than five members of their reserve team, a factor which accounted chiefly for their heavy defeat. The Denaby bowlers were in a merry mood. Two of the Rossington youngsters accounted for one third of the sides total.

Jonathan Robinson opened the innings for Rossington. With the score at 12 Robinson was run out when Criddle returned the ball from the boundary to Pegg. Then Allen snapped up a snick to dismiss Clarkson. Jarvis had a lucky escape at 25, and at 36. Wainwright was called upon to accept a mid on catch from Blount. At the fall of this wicket Morris took over from Wainwright, and two runs later Mee missed Jarvis on the boundary. The batsmen had another lucky escape at the other end when he was missed by Morris in the slips. Rossington had four down for 39, and when the scoreboard read 65 Laughton got his first wicket, bowling Jarvis, who after three “lives” made 33.

Two balls later Laughton also bowled “Dick” Kelly, a former Denaby United footballer, for a “duck,” the board still reading 65. The total was also unchanged when Batty brought off a great catch on the boundary to dismiss Walker. For the third time Laughton hit the stumps when he bowled Stanley for another “duck” and Allen smartly stumped Webster to bring the innings to a close with the score at 90. For Denaby, Pegg took two wickets for 30 runs, Wainwright three for 20, Morris 120 and Laughton three for 60, the latter having only five overs.

A Coincidence

By a coincidence, Denaby lost their first wicket when problems are been scored. Wainwright was caught on the leg side by Eades stop at 60 right was done by Chambers. Batty had his middle stump rooted by Blount, and the scoreboard at this stage read 33 for three. Greenwood was caught by Robinson after had made 42 in just over one hour’s batting. Three more runs were added when Criddle hard his middle stump uprooted by Webster, then Allen sent the ball to the boundary to make the winning hit. Morris carried his bat for 24. Denaby’s innings closing at 91 for five.
