All 10 – and a hat-trick!

It was 1000 pities there was not a bigger crowd at Tickhill Square on Saturday to see the fine 10 wickets feat by Jack Bullard, the new spin bowler from Doncaster, who has joined Denaby to take the place of Wardle.

He opened at the football field end, but this did not suit his style, and Allen did the right thing in switching him over. He went on to capture all 10 wickets for 23 runs (10 for 38 in all) and with his last three deliveries he got his hat-trick.

Bullard is the first Denaby player to get all 10 wickets and a hat-trick on his first appearance and in the club’s opening game, and it is believed that this also constitutes a league record.

The nearest approach to taking all 10 wickets in one match but Denaby went to Jim Richards, now playing with Mexborough, who, in 1941 playing against Swindon, took nine for 12.

Wath had 54 one and the board before the first wicket fell and were out for 91 (Auty 34, Cutts 18). Denaby made hay while the sun shone, and lost four wickets for 92 (Vickers 20, Robinson 23, Hawke 16, Bullard 22 not out).
