A 26 Runs Margin

Hickleton and Denaby and Cadeby provided a delightful afternoon at cricket at Thurnscoe, where Denaby, aggressive and confident, provided the stiffest opposition see at Shephard Lane this season. Hickleton won by 159 to 133 – a 26 runs margin – but it appeared at one stage that Denaby, not at full strength, might pull it off. The dismissal of Bullard proved the turning point of the game. Denaby were then 101 for 4, and they lost Bullard’s wicket without a run being scored – in fact he was run out off his first delivery – and from this reverse Denaby never recovered. Their last six wickets produced only 29 runs.

Heroes of the match were Hickleton Jim Hutchinson, was masterly 86 crown if faultless innings of 88 three sixes and five fours, and Denaby’s Ron Howson, whose hard-hitting, brisk 75 included eight fours and two sixes, and youthful Cory, who took six wickets for nine runs with spin deliveries which helped to dismiss Hickleton’s last six wickets for seven runs.

Hutchinson on his last two visits to Tickhill Square, has scored 100 runs, and must have an average of more than a hundred against Denaby. Denaby, however, add something to show Hickleton in scoring pace. Suffice it to sell it to Hickleton 75 minutes to score 60 and Denaby 39 minutes to do the same.
