Mitchell Main Beat Denaby’s Eight Men.
There was only a moderate attendance to witness this match on Saturday, on the Mitchell Main ground. Denaby were wretchedly represented, only having eight men. The home team was fairly represented, but were without the services of D. Thomas behind the stumps.
The visitors were the first to bat, and put on a respectable score of 108, the chief batsmen being G. Hardy, who made 48 without giving a chance, and J. S. Esland and J. Hancock, with 25 and 23 not out respectively.
Irving Washington, the home captain, was again in fine form with the bat, making 64 before being caught by Bury off Hardy. His innings included nine fours and one five. T. Lee made a useful 17, and W. Lees carried out his bat for 10. The visitors’ total was rubbed off for the loss of four wickets
