Denaby Club Secretary Charged
Alleged Embezzlement of Institute Funds

James Feeney, a Denaby miner, formerly secretary, librarian and treasurer of the Men’s Institute, Annerley Street, Denaby Main, was remanded in custody for a week at Doncaster on Tuesday, on a charge of embezzling £810 0s 10d belonging to the Institute. He was arrested by Police-constable Bowden at Grimethorpe.

Mr. C. R. Marshall, who prosecuted, said that the offence was alleged to have been committed between March, 1925, and April of this year. He had only just been instructed and he wanted time in which to prepare the case.

Supt. Minty, when prisoner applied for bail, said that they had considerable difficulty in finding the man, and he understood he had been over to Ireland.

Prisoner said he had not been away since the warrant was issued. He lived at Denaby but was not a householder.

The chairman informed him that he would have every opportunity of seeing a solicitor if he wanted to.
