Denaby Main Colliery Notices

On Saturday miners employed at Denaby Main Colliery completed their fortnight’s notice, and left the pit after receiving their wages. The total number of hands is about 1500.

The prevalent impression is that the strike will be only of comparatively short duration. However, as the masters seem as determined as the men not give in, hypothetical statements are not worth much consideration.

The news of the strike was received in Mexbro’ as an ill-omen, and although Saturday night the miners spent their money freely in the market and elsewhere, the shopkeepers have gloomy forebodings, having had such bitter experience in the past.
