Convalescent

we are glad to hear of the convalescence of Mr William Straw, a miner, who will be remembered sustained severe injuries by being “buried” in the pit together with another workman named J Littlewood in August last. Through the kindness of Mr Chambers, Straw has been sent to Scarborough Northern Sea Bathing Infirmary for a month where we hope he will get thoroughly recruited and come back well and strong. Littlewood, we are pleased to state, house resume work.

Wakefield Sessions

On Wednesday we, a married woman, named Ann Jane Rogers (53) was charged with maliciously wounding Mary Roach, at Denaby on 10 August.

Prisoner was sent to prison for seven days, and bound over for £5 to keep the peace.

Denaby Main Miner in Trouble

At the Sheffield Police Court on Tuesday, a miner from Denaby Main, named William Edward Butler, was charged with travelling on the M.S.and L. Railway without a ticket.

On Monday night, at 10.23, Butler was founded a first-class carriage of a train from Doncaster. He was worse for drink, and had a ticket upon him for Doncaster to Conisborough. He said he had stayed in the train to long. He refused to pay the extra fair and becoming obscene was locked up.

Fined 10 shillings including costs, or seven days.

Daring Robbery of Cattle At Old Denaby

During Monday night three fat beasts in the possession of Mr Robertson, farmer, of Old Denaby, were stolen from the shed, the thief or thieves getting clear away.

Information was given to the police, who traced the animals to Carbrook where they had been put up at the Pheasant Inn, so far not been called for by the party who left them.
