RETIREMENT

On Friday at Denaby Main colliery Mr. Fred Kent retired as assistant electrical engineer. Mr. Kent began his apprenticeship in the electrical department about 50 years ago. On Friday on behalf of officials and colleagues, Mr. A. Roebuck, electrical engineer, presented Mr. Kent with an inscribed gold wrist watch and expanding strap to match, in appreciation of his 50 years service. Mr. Roebuck paid tribute to the work of Mr. Kent, and extended good wishes from his colleagues. Mr. Kent expressed appreciation to all concerned. Mr. Kent lives in Conisbrough and is associated with the Parish Church. He is a member of an old Conisbrough family.

BUILDING FUND

Last Thursday, members of the Mothers’ Union organised a coffee morning and an afternoon “At home” in St. Chad’s Hall in aid of the building fund of the hall. The event raised over £55 and the Vicar thanked all who had helped. Prize winners were Mrs. A. Roberts, Mrs. Bell (Mexborough), Mrs. Holland and Mrs. Neal.

STORE THEFT

During Tuesday night and Wednesday morning thieves broke into the Central Stores in School Walk of the Denaby Main Co-operative Society and stole a quantity of cigarettes. Entry was made at the front of the premises, the locks being forced open and damage done. On Wednesday it was thought that only cigarettes and to had been taken but a check was being made on other goods. The police are investigating.

FULLERTON HOSPITAL

Three patients who were discharged from the hospital this week each gave 10s. to the Comforts Fund in appreciation of the services they had received. They were Mrs. C. Till, 16, Doncaster Road; Mrs. C. Robinson, 59, Annerley Street; and Mrs. M.J. Cope of 19, Ravensfield Street.
