Denaby Secretary Cautioned

Christmas Day Incident

Mr J Hancock, secretary of the Denaby club, was severely cautioned and ordered to pay the expenses of enquiry held into his conduct of the match between Denaby and Mexborough, played on Christmas Day.

The enquiry took place at a meeting of the Offensive Committee of the Sheffield Association last night, having been adjourned in order that lies the report might be considered. Mr Hancock was reported by referee J.W Gilling, of Rotherham, for alleged use of bad language to him.

Mr Hancock says that neither he nor the 2400 people present were aware that he was cautioned by the referee as alleged.

The able way in which Mr Hancock has always carried out his duty was testified to by Mr Morgan and Mr Lawley of the Denaby club.

The report of the linesmen (Mr W Murphy, Wombwell) corroborated the statement of the referee, after some discussion the committee decided that in consideration of the previous good character of Hancock a severe caution and payment of expenses will suffice.
