Denaby United 2 Mexborough 1
Luck also played an important part in Denaby’s narrow win over Mexborough in the return match. The penalty by which Denaby equalised was a very doubtful decision, and came as a surprise to everybody.
In the second half Mexborough had quite two-thirds of the play, and Shepherd saved some really splendid shots.
Waite, who returned to the centre forward’ position after a short absence, scored for Mexborough. Garner converted Denaby’s “spot” kick, and Hamilton got the winning goal after nearly 70 minutes’ play, sending in a 30 yards’ shot.
Both sides adapted themselves well to the, conditions.
