Ten Goals’ Game
Denaby Share the Points at Bradford

Denaby United’s performance against Mansfield at Denaby would not, we suggested, do anything to discourage their supporters, despite their 5-2 defeat, and United’s improvement was certainly maintained in Saturday’s Midland League fixture with Bradford City Reserves (15th in the table) in a 5-5 draw at Valley Parade.

United surprised the Bradford crowd with their lively opening. Smethurst saved brilliantly in early Bradford attacks and after 26 minutes WOODGER put Denaby one up. Four minutes later BOYLE equalised from a penalty but only a minute later Denaby were themselves awarded a penalty and Bobby SOUTHALL converted his third penalty shot in three successive matches (and his sixth this season) to put Denaby ahead again.

A minute later SHEPHARD increased the lead to 3-1.

Second remarkable phase In this encounter came when City scored three goals in as many minutes, ‘through CAMERON, LIVERSIDGE and SAMUELS, to give them a half-time lead of 4-3.

It was a quarter of an hour into the second haIf before Denaby equalised through SHEPHARD, and after 72 minutes took the lead through an EGAN goal. Three minutes later HOYLE made it five-all, and that was the way it stayed to the end. Egan has also scored in each of the last three games (four goals), Shephard has scored in two out of three (three goals)
