Bradford Game Made the Fourth Defeat in a Row

The last two or three games must have made Denaby supporters realise how much the club has owed to the “old guard” and it was surprising to find Duggan and Poulson out of the team for Mondays evenings game with Bradford City Reserves. If the decision was based on Saturday’s game, the answer is that the whole of the side had a bad day. It is still a fact that Poulson, Dublin and Holmes (the latter, of course, still on the injured list) have between them scored 55 of Denaby’s Cup and League goals this season.

Bradford City reserves won another relatively poor game 3-1. The second half was better than the first, but the whole was only a slight improvement on Saturday’s showing. Cooper lent solidity to the defence on his return. Bussey was a weak link in the half back line and contribute to two of the Bradford goals. Hard kicking Ken Hague went centre forward in their later stages of the game, ever hard-working Bobby Southall taking over at right back and Morgan at right half, but it was too late to retrieve lost ground.

Wain, in at centre forward, showed only one thing, a good shot, which brought Denaby’s interval lead after 42 minutes. Otherwise he was rarely in the hunt and centre half Miller will scarcely have an easy 90 minutes.

A Holmes light first by winger Simm was the prelude to Bradford’s equaliser in the 55^th minute, scored very simply by, Duthie who had moved to inside right. After a long clearance of the ball, Gray, who began at inside right and later moved to the wing, scored the second Bradford goal in the 75^th minute, again following tip tapping goal area, and Duthie scored the third, nine minutes from the end.

Denaby, who have now lost four games in a row, go to Grantham tomorrow and entertain Scunthorpe on Monday evening.
