Denaby Utd – Briggs feats and Harry Dean at Tickhill Road

January 1925

Mexborough & Swinton Times, January 17th 1925

Local football ‘fans’ would be delighted to the that the former Denby player, Briggs, deputising for Bradford at centre-forward for Birmingham, was responsible for the two goals which knocked Chelsea out of the Cup.

He would be a world of good at Denaby at the present time when the lack of really enterprising centre-forward is manifest. The officials realise the fact and have been on the qui vive for some time. They hope that the troubles are now solved, for on Monday evening Mr. W. Astbury secured the signature of Harry Leslie Dean, a Hoyland Common youth formerly of Hoyland Wesleyan F.C., who, during the Christmas season played about half-a-dozen games for Mexborough.

He played in the outside right position against Denaby on Christmas Day and on New Year’s Day, and has on two occasions led the Mexborough line, scoring each time.
