Denaby United 1 Chesterfield Reserve 1

This re-arranged match was played at Denaby yesterday, in rough weather, before a small attendance. Chesterfield arrived late, start not being made until 4.20. Denaby were not at full strength, E. Westwood, Kime, and Peters being included.

The opening play was ragged, both sides making mistakes. In the first minute Tayles cleared from Tomlinson, whilst the other end the Chesterfield defence got tangle, with Bisby unable to utilise a good opportunity. Chesterfield forced three futile corners in rapid succession. Peters twice planted the ball well in front of the Chesterfield goal, but the visiting defence was strong.

Denaby now had the best of the game, and Ball once struck the Chesterfield crossbar with fast shot. Hartley taking the rebound and shooting straight at Martin, who cleared. Later, Kime got past the backs, and from close range was inches wide.

Chesterfield were only occasionally dangerous, but once Davidson broke through in clever style, and it was only a brilliant save by Tayles that saved Denaby, whilst later Hall hit the upright. At the interval neither side had scored.

The second half was even in character. Osborne gave Chesterfield the lead, and after some good passing Ball equalised with a shot that found a way through a crowd of players. Towards the end Denaby overplayed Chesterfield, Martin and his backs giving a fine display.

Result: Denaby United . . 1 goal. Chesterfield Reserve . 1 goal
