Denaby Equalise In Cup Tie
With The Last Kick

Denaby United 2, Farsley Celtic 2

Phew! For the sake of your supporters Denaby never do that again, scoring with the last kick of the match to force a 2-2 draw with Farsley Celtic in the F.A. Cup, and qualifying for a replay.

The was plenty of newsworthy incident during the 90 minutes but alas little fooball of any significant, particularly from Denaby, who we expect to produce a sterling performance in Cup matches.

It was a terrible performance with the forward line atrocious. Just as they were bad at Tickhill Square, they produced a really fighting and successful effort in the previous round, so perhaps it is not a lessening of standards – after all stop

Names confusion

Similarity in names — three Smiths. two Hirds, two Jones.”, two Parkers and two Brown’s —led to difficulties. Denaby supporters were even calling their own team and the Farsley men must have been doing the same, Only Wiggles and Wood put In anything like their usual consistent performance, while M. Hird and A. Brown were the pick of the visitors.

Peter Caunt and Alf Brown were sent off late in the second half following a bout of bickering.

The most unusual topic of the match — disregarding the football — were the Jones boys, Fred and Keith who played In the match on different sides. Fred was a former Farsley player before moving to South Yorkshire at the beginning of the season.

Keith Jones put Farsley In the lead after five minutes, B. Parker had equalised minutes later, Alf Brown gave, the visitors’ the lead and Launders was the saviour of the home team scoring with the last kick of the match
