After the lukewarm “gate” which witnessed the return game between Denaby and Worksop at Denaby, the management of the colliery club have little prospect of any encouragement to continue their Midland League career at the end of the present season.
The irony of it was that the teams put a rattling good game after a rather tame opening. Worksop opened the scoring, after five minutes’ play, in the easiest of fashion. Watson dropped across rattling good centre, and Arthurs, lying well up, tapped home very cleverly. Then followed half an hour’s stern struggle, mostly in the Worksop quarters, and at length Fitton bundled the ball home for the equaliser, from a centre by Dodsley.
The second half was warmer, but less scientific. Denaby got a beautiful goal. Mercer fired in a red-hot shot, which Scott pushed back in harry, and Palmer rushed to score with low drive. Straight from the kick-off Worksop broke right through, and Arthurs equalised, so that Worksop took partial revenge for Denaby’s one and only away victory.

The visit of Mexborough to the Anlaby Road enclosure was productive of one of the most interesting Midland League games of the season. The South Yorkshire men managed to share the honours with the junior “Tigers.”
The latter were not seen at their best until well on in the second half, when they harassed the Mexborough defence to such extent that it fell twice in quick succession. Rounds, although often hard worked, dealt with shots in very effective manner, and received excellent support from Crump and Murray. Wathey and Gladwin, on the left wing, wore the most noticeable of good front rank, and both players had the satisfaction of lowering the home colours.
On the Hull side, McDonald, whom City have recently signed, immensely pleased the critics. Another, new face was seen in Staley, who appeared at centre-half. For first appearance, the new man did well, but after being transferred from to centre to wing, he was seen to much better advantage.
