Doncaster Too Slow.

Denaby 3, Doncaster 0

Denaby were on top of their form at Tickhill Square on Monday, when a re-arrangement of the forward line was a great success.

Doncaster were, a big set, but were painfully slow in comparison with the lively Denaby men, who made rings round them. Jenkins returned to outside right to replace Martin, and Kelly took inside right position. Jenkins played a dashing game, and Kelly was much better at inside right than at centre-forward. Brewin played another forceful game at centre-forward and always troubled his bigger opponents. Green, although he had an injured shoulder in the second half, played splendid football. Turner was again impressive, though hampered by a strained leg muscle, a legacy of Saturday’s match. Ogley played his best game of the season, and Clegg and Windle were entirely satisfactory. Taylor was outstanding and had a sound partner in Rodgers. Birch played a faultless game.

The Doncaster players were all on the big side, but one’s expectation of great things from them was not realised. They suffered all round from slowness that sometimes looked like apathy, and were far too artless for the nippy and cunning Denaby men. Binns and Wilkinson were particularly slow. Binns missed many chances, and showed few of the attributes of a good centre-forward. The wing forwards and halves were much better but got poor support. The backs were good, and Farmery made good saves.

It was not until after half an hour that one of Jenkin’s centres was converted by BREWIN at close range. McNestry missed a fine chance of scoring for Doncaster. After the interval Brewin and Jenkins put in some smart work, and the latter centred to KELLY who scored with another close range shot. A period of exciting football followed and both goals had narrow escapes. The credit for the third goal must be given to Clegg, whose shot from the wing glanced off BREWIN into the net.
