Denaby beat Monk Bretton

Denaby United 3 Monk BrettonĀ  0

On Saturday Denaby United had to entertain Monk Bretton, a team that had been losing a lot of ground in the past few weeks. This the colliery lands had little difficulty in securing a victory. The attendance, though the weather was beautifully fine, was very poor indeed, we seem to indicate that the Denaby public is losing interest in the one-time local favourite.

Early in the game the home team got through, but the point was disallowed. Chapman had a splendid chance, but Seaman saved.

Hardy, too, shortly afterwards had a good opening, but failed. The visitors then pressed, but were met with a stern defence, and for some time play ruled even. The visitors had the wind in their favour, but shot indifferently, and despite the fact that they had to meet sudden strong gusts of the wind Denahy, on several occasions, caused Seaman to be on the alert. This was followed by the visitors securing two fruitless corners in quick, succession, and just before halftime Whitehouse scored for ‘Denaby.

Resuming, Seaman was soon employed by Robson with a splendid shot. Taylor pulled through his own goal, and for a considerable time the bulk of the play was in the Monk Bretton half, matters being brought to a climax by Hardy, who sent in a quick shot, Seaman missing. Several corners fell to Denaby, who kept the visitors’ defence very busily engaged, but the shots were ineffective,. Play towards the close became loose, though Seaman was several times called upon, but he defended well. Na further score was made, and the game ended:
