The game at between the colliers and Notts Forest Reserve suffered financially through the interesting Cup-tie at Mexborough. There was a wretched attendance, but some fairly good football. There were many changes in the home front rank, hut they gave a fairly decent show. The reappearance of Tufnell, the centre-forward who was signed on on Wednesday, being particularly noteworthy, inasmuch he accomplished’ the hat-trick.”

The visitors were a very strong lot. Served by a splendidly strong defence, and possessing a front line speedy, clever, and strong in front of goal, they gave a sparkling display in the opening half, and with a lead of four goals to one it looked all over.

But the homesters, playing pluckily, all but drew level. For Notts, Palmer, Whitchurch, Hooper, Fisher, Gibson, Marsden, and Hassel were the pick: and for Denaby, Thompson, Coalwood, Kelly, Tufnell and Fitton caught the eye
