Sheffield Independent – Thursday 02 January 1930

Denaby United 3, Rotherham United Reserve 1.

Denaby were good value for their win in a game devoid of thrills.

Rotherham might have done better had they opened up the game more, but Denaby’s defence was always sound and the halves were worriers.

Green scored two goals in the first half in as many minutes; one from a square pass by WC Smith and the other after he had beaten three defenders.

In the second he hit the Rotherham crossbar with a great shot which deserved to score, and it did, for from the rebound Stobart back heeled hit through his own goal. In the closing stages Banks headed a consoling goal for Rotherham.

Denaby have obtained seven out of the possible eight points in their holiday programme, dropping one at home to Mexborough on Christmas day
