Denaby United 3 Scarborough 2

Lennon, Denaby inside right, took many of the honours in Saturday’s match at Tickhill Square when Denaby United beat Scarborough 3-2. He scored their second goal after 35 minutes in the first half and engineered most beautifully Strachan’s winner in the 60th minute.

Denaby earned the roar of triumph after only 2 ½ minutes had gone. Caryer racing a losing Hall into the Scarborough goalmouth, saw Stokes clearance go to Barton. The Denaby wing man logged it accurately back into the goalmouth and Strachan was there to deflect it into the net.

Nine minutes later Gordon, Scarborough leader, untiringly in devouring to get his wing man moving, back heeled the ball to Getty. The Scarborough wing man was brought down in the area and Thompson scored from the resultant penalty. Lennon restored Denaby’s lead after 35 minutes, and 15 minutes after the restart, beat three defenders, took the ball out to the wing and centred beautifully for Strachan to make it 3-1.

Dare got Scarborough’s second goal two minutes later.

Denaby played a storming game on a slippery rate rainsoaked ground, but Scarborough were unlucky not to share a point when Dyer crashed the ball onto the upright with Wilkinson unsighted.

Bouquet to Jack Williams for another grand show in the Denaby halfback line!  like this deserve better “gates”.
