Easy One For Denaby.

Denaby 4, Worksop 1

The match at Denaby on Monday evening was one-sided and Denaby had it nearly all their own way.

Denaby led 3-1 at the interval, and if they had made good use of their chances the score would have been more than doubled. In the second half the players indulged in a lot of pattern weaving and were satisfied  to hold Worksop.

In the earlier stages of the game play was even, but after 10 minutes Denaby got ahead. Jones passed out to TURNER, who scored with a high shot. Three minutes later KELLY fired in a low shot that gave Edeson no chance. The effectiveness of the Worksop defence alone kept Denaby from scoring more and after 30 minutes Worksop reduced the lead. It was a lucky goal that they hardly deserved. P. Moore took the ball upfield and centred. TAYLOR trying to head away, diverted the ball into the net. Five minutes later GREEN increased Denaby’s lead during a scrimmage in the Worksop goal.

In the second half Denaby were all over Worksop but did not exert themselves unduly. They did add another goal either by accident or design. Jenkins centred and Jones headed the ball past an open goal to TURNER, who sent in a ground shot that .cored. The game became almost farcical later.

Denaby played well as a team. Turner, Jenkins and Jones ‘ were the most effective of a well-organised attack. The halves and backs were so sound that Birch had no more than six shots to deal with. Foster, Robinson, Hunt and Fellows were the best triers for Worksop.

The teams were:

Denabv : Birch; Rodgers, Taylor ; Clegg, Ogley, Windle; Jenkins, Kelly, Jones, Green, Turner.

Worksop : Edeson; Hunt, Fellows; H. Moore, Robinson, Gladwin : Allison T. Grice, B. Grice, F. Moore, Foster.

Referee: J. Rickwood, Sheffield.
