Denaby hit their Hundredth Goal !

Denaby United six goals against Corby Town on Monday evening gave them a Midland league record of:

Pd 37  Won 18 Lost 15  Drawn 4;  Goals for 101, against 97, points 40, and they thus became the fourth Midland League club to hit the century this season.

Not since season 1949 – 50 have United scored over 90 goals. Records for the last eight years show:

64 – 77, 90 – 69, 51 – 90, 69 – 115, 65 – 90, 69 – 110, 63 – 105, 72 – 91 (last season)

The 1949 – 50 season saw Bernard Saxton (41 goals) Midland League leading goalscorer.

Cliff Martin has now scored 34 and thus needs eight from the remaining nine games to beat Saxons record.

That goals make for spectator interest has been reflected in “gates,” and United, who have yet to be beaten at Denaby this year, have maintained their position in the Midland League since the beginning of December. They have lost only four of the 14 games in which they have been engaged since January 5th.
