Denaby Still in the Doldrums

Denaby- United were beaten 5-1 on Saturday’ in the second of their three successive away matches in the Midland League — this time at King’s Lynn. They were two goals down after 28 minutes and held King’s’ Lynn to this score at half-time.

Smethurst, as he has so often done this season, played brilliantly in the second half, but he had no chance to save a hat-trick from Dixon.

Williams and Dixon (first haIf)-and Dixon (2) and Mosby (second half), were the King’s Lynn scorers. Pilkington scored for Denaby (his fifth goal for United this season).

Denaby, who have lost six of their last eight matches, have gone through four games without getting a point since they defeated Scarborough at the- turn of the year.

Tomorrow they go to Doncaster. On February 15th they are at home to Bradford and on February 22nd at home to Mansfield.

Unless they can turn the tide of misfortune it looks as though points are going to be very precious before the season is out.
