Smart Denaby Forwards.
A Good Win At Doncaster.

Doncaster 1 Denaby 3

Denaby won rather easily at Doncaster on Saturday, not because they were greatly superior but because they were admirably served in attack by a lively set of forwards who adapted themselves to the conditions and took chances

Doncaster were hardly ever together. Binns, hard though he worked, has not the footcraft, and his persevering but straightforward methods were repeatedly thwarted by two stout and sure backs. Rodgers gave a fine display,—As a result, Birch had not a lot to do, for the Doncaster forwards were inept in rounding off the capital work of the young wingers, Barber and Swaby, both of whom were at times sadly neglected.

It was a severe handicap for Doncaster, however, when twenty minutes before the end Underwood had to retire after a collision with Windle, and Denaby clinched the matter with a goal by KELLY which Farmery ought to have prevented.

BROWN opened the scoring just before the interval when the Doncaster defence broke down.

LONGDEN reduced the lead with a clever hook shot but SMITH put Denaby again in the lead with a good header.

There was considerable enthusiasm among a fairly large crowd, which included a good sprinkling of visitors, but the football never approached the best of which the teams are capable. The honours certainly went to Denaby, who played whole heartedly all through.

Doncaster’s display was one of the worst they have put up at Belle Vue.
