13 January 1908

Sheffield Independent – Monday 13 January 1908

Doncaster Rovers 0  Denaby United 1

At Doncaster, on a hard ground, before a good attendance.

Doncaster tried new men in Brind, from Sheffield. The Rovers started and Denaby forced a comer m the first minute from which Dyal headed over.

Even play was the order for some time, the game being very fast. Stubbin  got a grand centre, from which Charles placed out. Dobson was tripped by Dale, and the game was temporary stopped. Doncaster went away and Brind was put pulled up for pushing. Bramall forced a comer which he placed well for Murphy to shoot badly.

Denaby played strongly, and a bad misunderstanding between Lindley and Lowe resulted in the latter skying the ball for Kelly to scramble it through.

The Rovers could not got into their usual tried, and the Denaby defence was found plenty to do.

Half-time came with Denaby leading by 1 to 0.

Doncaster had more of the play at the start of the second half. Charles was going through when he was brought to earth, and Murphy, from the ensuing penalty hit the crossbar and the ball was bundled away. Doncaster we were all over their opponents at this stage and were repeatedly helped by fouls. From corner on the right Brailsford placed a little too hi.
