Lack Of Forward Punch

Doncaster United 3, Denaby United 2.

Denaby United’s match against Doncaster United in the Yorkshire League at Doncaster on Saturday was a fast game that could have been a victory for Denaby if it had not been for the lack of forward power that has dogged them in so many games.

The first goal came early when Knagg sent in a perfect centre to BULLARS, who neatly took the ball away from the Denaby defence to make it a narrow angle shot that Hyde was hardly expecting, putting Doncaster one up in the 15th minute.

Denaby fans did not have to wait long for the equaliser. After an attacking move by Denaby had broken down in the penalty area, ‘keeper Riley picked up the ball. As he ran forwards to kick it upfield, he tripped and dropped the ball. SMITH, who was running in, dribbled round him and tapped the ball into an empty net in the 20th minute.

In Doncaster Half.

For the rest of the first half, Denaby kept the ball mostly in the Doncaster half, but only once came really close to scoring. The ball was passed in from the wing and Smith sent a crashing shot through a gap in the Doncaster defence that looked like a goal all the way, but Riley rocketed across the goalmouth and caught the ball in flight.

There were no goals in the second half until the 75th minute when BULLARS scored his second.

Jones had the ball in the Denaby penalty area, but was blocked by the defenders. Suddenly he slipped the ball to Bullars who ran round the Denaby backs and put the ball into an empty net, putting Doncaster back in the lead.

BULLARS made it a hat-trick in the 85th minute when he beat two defenders and crashed the ball home from 15 yards, not giving Hyde a chance.

Denaby had hopes for the equaliser when JOHNSON picked up a loose ball and scored in the 87th minute but the final whistle went before a chance came.
