Frickley gave a very poor display in the game with Denaby at South Elmsall on Saturday. The conditions made good football out of the question. Frickley owed their defeat mainly to one thing. The forwards were energetic, but were slow in parting with the ball when troubled by Denaby defenders.

Denaby adapted themselves better to the condition, and though there were only four goals between the teams, Denaby deserved the victory, if only for the great display they made in the second half.

Frickley more than held their own in the first half and it was not till just before the teams changed over that Denaby obtain their first goal through a misunderstanding between the Frickley backs. Slack attempted to clear, and headed into his own goal.

There was only one team in it in the second half. The Frickley forwards were ragged. Jackson’s runs were one of the few good things about the attack. Denaby were the cleverer team in keeping the ball low, and played with such effect that two goals were scored in the first 15 minutes. Ogley got the first, from a pass by JC Johnson and Ben Johnson the second. The Denaby forwards were deadly marksman and Bromage was kept busy. His clearance off high dropping ball from Taylor was skilful, but he was again beaten, this time by Skeels, whose shot was from close range.

This game was never very exciting. Denaby made the best use of their chances and were sounding defence; Taylor held the Frickley forward is a masterly manner. Ogley was the best of the middle line and Engel sure had bad luck several times. Wood gave a good display for Frickley. Smart was capable and Neil played as well as ever
