Denaby Again Down.
Gainsbro’ Too Good.

Gainsborough Trinity Reserve 3 Denaby United 1

Following upon the astonishing defeat of ‘the Denaby team at Barnsley came on Saturday an even more surprising failure at Gainsbro’,

The Denaby side was well represented, and were opposed to a moderate Trinity team.

Early on Gainsbro’ pressed vigorously, and a by no means raw Trinity recruit, Mahon, turned tine ball nicely into goal, Hancock neatly saving. After Day had cleared from Dyal, a run by Allison produced a corner, which was immediately followed by one for Denaby. Day effected a save from the flag-kick, and was placed all right for dealing with Nimrod’s return, but Webster turned the ball into the net with his bead. Denaby thus took the lead after ten minutes’ play.

Allison had a perfect opening, following on a miskick by Marshall, but only three yards out gave Hancock no trouble with a feeble shot. Gainsbro’ were awarded a Penalty kick, which Turner failed to convert.

Just on the interval Soar got the better of Ramsden, .and equalised with a shot which gave Hancock no chance.

After ten minutes’ play in the second half Mahon scored from Brawn’s centre, Denaby appealing against the point on the score of offside. From a corner Hancock saved finely from Lowe. Excepting for a shot from Dyal, Day was not troubled for half-an-hour, at the end of which time Ward increased the home side’s lead. This roused Denaby, and Day had to come through with a fine clearance. Hancock also saved a fine shot from Turner, Mahon hitting the cross-bar from the rebound. Denaby pressed, but many shooting chances were not taken. Hancock saved twice from Allison, and from Blackburn.
