Mansfield Town Reserves 5 Denaby United 3

Denaby United, who have not gained a point since October 12, lost 5-3 to Mansfield Town reserves at Mansfield, and at one period of the game were leading 3-2.

Defensive lapses were the cause of their defeat. The art that lie was faulty; and it not be for ran skill at centre half there would have been a different goal story. Hardy and Sheppard seem to lack confidence. Cotton, played in his old position and Fleetwood combined well together but neither of them give the ball to Betts. Betts was a great forager, but was given too much to do. Through great persistency and determination he registered a hat-trick. After three games he has attracted “scouts” from first-class clubs and has now been signed by Denaby.

Easy Chances and

Mansfield should have scored in the opening stages, but Presgrave and Warren missed easy chances. Denaby’s first attack saw Clarke, the young left-winger on trial for the Rotherham district, going near the mark and later he forced a corner.

Returning to the attack on Mansfield gained the lead when Tremain pushed out a shot from Warren and Anderson easily netted. 10 minutes later the same player scored again.

The Mansfield girl had a narrow escape when Wainwright nearly put through his own goal, but the Town made good progress and only a good save by Tremain prevented Anderson from getting his hat-trick.

Denaby however rallied and two goals from Betts levelled the score. Five minutes after the interval Betts gave Denaby the lead with it header from a corner kick. Ranskill kicked a shot from Pressgrave of the goal-line, but soon afterwards Anderson complete his hat-trick. Mansfield took the lead when Pressgrave scored and Anderson put the issue beyond doubt.
