Denaby More Than Hold Their Own

Notts C. Res. 2, Denaby Utd.0

After Their previous’ week’s victory, Denaby had great hopes of bringing back at least one point from Nottingham, on Saturday, and strengthened their team by the inclusion of Murphy. Though ,they more than held their own, Notts County got two goals to decide the issue..

Denaby were soon in the picture when Blood was lucky to clear a dangerous’ centre from Stone. Then Houghton skimmed the bar with a hard drive. Denaby’s new recruit, Murphy, was always on the alert keeping a watchful eye on Squires.

End-to-end exchanges followed, but the only dangerous movement of note was when Dwyer saved a long shot from Houghton. Howell and Lowe, on the Denaby left, combined well. The latter was about to go through on his own when he was stopped by Mason. Again Dwyer rose to the occasion when he saved point blank a shot from ‘Burgess.

After a series of attacks by Denaby; Notts attacked on the left, and from a centre by Roy, Dwyer took the ball from the foot of Tapping to save an almost certain goal. After 30 -minutes the County took the lead When TAPPING scored. .At this stage Denaby began to have more of the game and Stone beat Blood only for Taylor to save his shot from close range.

On resuming Denaby were the more aggressive, Rowell extending Taylor. The goalkeeper was rather lucky to clear a shot from Betts. Then, with only three minutes to go, Notts increased their score through TAPPING.
