Scunthorpe Still Winning.

Scunthorpe United 4  Denaby United 1

Some fine football was witnessed at Scunthorpe where the home team, who are making a bold bid for championship honours, defeated Denaby United by 4-1.

Although plainly outclassed, Denaby put up a plucky fight, and until they had the misfortune to lose Creasey, their big centre half there was not a dull moment. He had his jaw injured in a collision with Roebuck early in the second half, and up to then he had been Denaby’s most prominent defender.

Crofts gave Scunthorpe the lead, and there was a long spell during which the Denaby goal had some miraculous escapes. Then from a breakaway Chantry, the Denaby captain, equalised.

Scunthorpe regained the lead through Crofts, and in the second half further goals were scored by Roebuck and Lemond. There was not a weak player in the Scunthorpe team.

Leo made many fine runs for Denaby, and Creasey was easily the best defender. Ogg did quite well at centre-half. When Creasey was injured, Chantry and Hamilton were the pick of the forwards.

Mexborough Town  2  Worksop  1

On Saturday Mexborough secured their first victory this year by defeating Worksop at Hampden Road by the odd goat in three.

The visitors played a good game, but on the whole Mexborough Were the better team, had most of the play, and quite deserved both points. Worksop were rather weak in the full back section, and but for excellent goalkeeping by Brown the home side would have been two or three goals in front at the interval. As it was they led by one goal, scored by Charlie Taylor.

William Froggatt equalised midway through the second half, and M. Taylor failed to score from a penalty kick awarded for bands. Willoughby got the winning goal.

Worksop’s most useful men were Amos and Banks, while Flynn was outstanding among the players of the home team.
