Late Goal decides at Thurnscoe

Thurnscoe Vics 0 Denaby United 1

Although defeated by the only goal of the game, Thurnscoe easily held their own at Thurnscoe on Saturday and a draw would have been, a just result to a poor game. Feeling cropped up throughout the game and there was one incident when a spectator went on to the field. The Vics were without Blessed, their centre-forward, and he was missed tremendously. Both sets of forwards missed good chances of scoring and shooting generally was deplorably weak. The defences on .both sides took the honours of the game.

Denaby won the toss and faced the slope, Corrigan: in the Vics goal, saving from Kitchen in the first minute. All offside decision spoiled a good move by Thurnscoe at the other end; After 25 minutes Denaby had chances, of being two up, L Williams missing the ball in front of goal and subsequently shooting straight at the goalkeeper. The Denaby goal had a narrow shave when Law hit the crossbar with Harvey out of position, and from the rebound Mason missed a great change of heading in.

A Repetition.

The second half was a repetition of the first. Corrigan on several occasions showed excellent judgment and twice took the ball from the toe of Stone. Harvey also made no mistakes in the Denaby goal and saved a certain, goal when he came out to rob Bloomfield just in the nick of time. With seven minutes to go Stone received from Sherwin, raced down the wing and beat his man to send across a perfect centre.

L WILLIAMS sent in the best shot of the game just inches wide of Corrigan. The Vics kept up the fight to the end, but the Denaby backs, Happs and J Williams, had little difficulty in holding them out.
