Playing superior football in all departments, Denaby United, at Central Avenue on Saturday, repeated their surprise of a couple of seasons ago. On Saturday they defeated a reorganised – to some extent disorganised Worksop side by the convincing margin of four goals to one.

While it is true that Worksop centre forward did not arrive and a considerable alteration add to be made in the forward and halfback lines, the fact remains that Denaby played such good football that Worksop were no match for them.

Windle was a hard man to deal with. He was everywhere, always ready to help his wing has, but never missing when wanted elsewhere. His sharp passes to his wing forwards turn attacks about with the skill of an artist. There are surely many seasons of good football ahead of this clever player.

But the outstanding feature of Denaby’s play was the work of Dick Pearson. Denaby need not mourn the departure of Bussy while Pearson plays like that. He did not score, but the openings he made were of the most value to his side and it was his work that enabled the Denaby attack to work like a well oiled machine.

Early in the game Allen give Denaby the lead. It was a good goal, Best having no chance of saving. Within a minute or two Tufnell scored for Worksop, but Allen again give Denaby the lead with a fine shot at close range, and before the interval Taylor increased it. Afterwards Allen scored his third and Denaby’s fourth goal.

Worksop suffered through an injury to Spink, what to leave the field in the second half. In the closing stages Denaby saw asserted their mastery that Worksop were merely in collection of “miscellaneous odds and ends.”

Never have we seen a Worksop team so hopelessly beaten.
