Boxing Day Match

Worksop Town 2 Denaby United 0

Much improved Worksop Town, with the confidence for a win at Gains rough and a draw at Sutton. faced Denaby United on Boxing Day, and a goal in each half gave them a 2-0 win.

On the whole it was well deserved, but the game never created a deal of enthusiasm and the Hillsborough attraction reduced the attendance.

Denaby were well served by Gladstone Guest, Howard Johnson and Jack Shaw, and Johnson, indeed, had no superior afield. Worksop’s first goal was a fortunate affair. Davey came out to collect a centre from the right, but a full-back got in his way. He was unable to reach the ball, which fell just right for Haythorne to score.

The other goal was from one of Worksop’s best attacks. Longden raced down the right wing and put the ball across so that Davey had no chance to intercept David Nevin’s shot. Teams:—

Worksop:

Wheatley; Marshall, Maddison; Hughes, Kelsey, Calladine; Longden, Ellis, Nevin, Dean, Haythorne.

Denaby:

Davey: Williams (J), Faster; Hirst, Johnson. Bourne; Hutton, Guest, Shaw, Slater, Friel.
