Denaby Utd. Out of Luck

York City Reserves 4  Denaby United 2

Denaby United, who entertain York City Reserves in the next to the last Midland League match of the season, were beaten 4-2 at Bootham Crescent last week-end.

Principal trouble was a shaky first half, notably by the defence, though some measure of their difficulties may be judged by the fact that for 25 minutes they were without Alf Lee, who was injured and had to leave the field until the commencement of the second half. During that time, nevertheless, United made up part of the leeway (half time score was 3-2) but a fourth for York after 55 minutes sealed the City victory.

Denaby took the lead in the ninth minute through ROWNEY. Three minutes later SPENCE R. equalised. COOP broke through seven minutes later to give York the lead and ten minutes later a high lob forward by Benson brought yet another goal. BROWN G.. included after several weeks in the senior side, following up quickly and heading the ball out of the reach of Mayhall into the net.

United played well with their ten men and after 36 minutes WOODS reduced the York lead but the second half was to see another goal inside ten minutes of the restart. Mayhall had a particularly good second half. The York right wing pair of Benson and Coop played a notable part in York ‘a success.
