Denaby Wheelers Convivial

The annual tea, social and prize distribution of Denaby Main Wheelers, C.C was held on Saturday, Mr A. Wain presided over a gathering of 55 members and friends, in the absence of the club president.

“The King” was proposed by the chairman, after which Mr John Woodward (South Elmsall Social) was called upon to toast “The Club.” He spoke of the way the members had supported the Association events, also the interclub Hill climb with the South Elmsall S.C.C. and complemented the members on their successful rides during the year.

A minutes silence was observed in memory of cyclists already reported killed on active service.

Mr L Bamforth in proposing “Absent Friends,” told how the only serving member present that night was a brother, K Balmforth, but several other members were in uniform.

A report in the past year was given by Mr G Smith (secretary).

Mr F. Oldfield of the Conisbrough Ivanhoe C.C, a vice president of the local centre of the MCU and secretary of the Don Valley C.C.A. presented the awards. He said he was glad to hear that the club were to carry on in 1941, and hoped he could add 1942 – 43 and many more years ahead.
