“Diamond Day” At Denaby.

A couple who moved to Denaby Main over 40 years ago, celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary with a family party at Conisbrough Ellershaw Youth Clubrooms on Sunday, but the actual date of the anniversary was last Friday.

Mr Mrs Thomas Box of 15, Warmsworth Street, Denaby, are well-known in the village and their four sons organised a party to which many relatives and friends were invited.

Mr Box, aged 84, worked at Cadeby Colliery for most of his working life, but spent three years during the Great War in the K.O.Y.L.I. and the Cyclist Corps in France and Belgium.

He retired from the pits when he was 65.

A native of Derbyshire, he married Eckington born Mrs Clara Box at Eckington Parish Church and recalled that he had to walk through a ploughed field to get to the church.
