Disgusted Denaby Woman

When P.c. Shuker, of Denaby, had sworn to speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing else, Mrs. Elisabeth Magnall winked at him and in solemn tones conjured him to speak the truths.

The Supt. told Elisabeth that the officer would probably do that without her interference.

At a quarter to eleven on Saturday night week P.c. Shaker and a colleague were taking Magnall’s husband to the police station for being drunk and disorderly. Elisabeth followed them all the way to the station, using revolting language and begging the officer to give “her John” back to her. She appealed to P.c. Shaker to think of the distress Mrs Shuker would be in if he were forcibly taken away from her. P.c. Lundy had to drive her from the police station.

P.s. Rushton corroborated.

Mrs. Magnall indignantly told the Court she never used such language. It was disgusting.

The Chairman agreed that it was disgusting, emphasising his agreement by fining Elisabeth 2/6 and costs.

“I’ve never been here before.” shouted Mrs. Magnall as she cleared out of Court. “and blest if I’ll come again. If I wasn’t a good wife I’d have a better time”
