Donald Pleasence joins Theatrical Profession

On The Stage

Mr. Donald Pleasence, the 19 year old younger son of the station master at Conisborough, has recently left the L. N. E. R. Company to enter the theatrical profession.

He has joined Kent Nasmith repertory company in Jersey (Channel Islands) as actor and assistant stage manager. Although Mr. Pleasence has done very little public work since he came to Conisborough, he was very well known in many other places. He competed with outstanding success at festivals in various centres, including Sheffield, Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes at all of which he won the highest awards. He secured no fewer than 12 first at the latter 2 places.

For the past four years he’s been a student at a Barnsley studio of the Broadhead academy of elocution and dramatic art.

While at Conisbrough he has been booking clerk at Conisbrough and Swinton station.
His first performances in Jersey was in the Bronte play “Wuthering heights,” in which he took the part of Hareton Earnshaw, and he also undertook the duties of assistant manager.

His many friends will wish him the best of luck in his new sphere.
