Doncaster Mining Offences

The Denaby and Cadeby Collieries, Limited, were the prosecutors in a number of cases at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Saturday.

Elijah Sharpe (18). pony driver, Ernest Wooton, corporal, and Joseph Hawksworth, pony driver, Denaby, were summoned for riding an underground road and Wooton was further charged with aiding and abetting.

The Chairman (Brigadier-General Bewicke Copley) commented upon the danger of the practice. They were each ordered to pay a week’s wages, Sharpe 34s., Wootton 50s., including the costs in the second summons, and Hawksworth 22s.

Arthur Grayson, miner, Denaby, for an offence in the mine, was fined 30s. Harry Smith, a filler-up, Swinton, who refused to work in another stall, was ordered to pay 20s.
