Former Cadeby Colliery worker Mr. Albert Waters, now living in Thorne, Doncaster, returned to the district on Saturday to celebrate his 80th birthday.

Surrounded by many members of his family, which at “full strength” includes five daughters, 28 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, Mr. Waters was wined and dined in Conisbrough Welfare Hall.

Mr. Waters, who retired from the time office at Cadeby Colliery when he was 65, has lived with relatives at Thorne for about eight years.

His previous homes were in Barmborough Street and Cliff View, Denaby, and Thirlwall Avenue, Conanby, Conisbrough.

He was born in Wakefield, but lived in Denaby for nearly 50 years.
