Ex Policeman’s Suicide

A verdict of “Suicide while of unsound mind” was returned by the Doncaster Deputy Coroner (Mr W.H. Carlisle) at an inquest yesterday, at 32 Northliffe Road, Conisborough, into the death of Abraham Thomas (54), an ex-policeman, recently living with his brother-in-law at this address.

Police Sgt Sparrow stated that deceased had a nervous breakdown last October and since his stay at Conisborough had complained of pains in the head and sleeplessness.

He went out about 10 o’clock on Monday morning and did not return. The search Denaby Wood during the night but without success.

He suffered from neurasthenia and had been ordered to go out walking as much as possible.

The discovery was made by John Adamson, a Conisborough miner, and he reported to PC Dobson, who found the body, with its throat cut and a bloodstained razor by its side, in Denaby Wood, on Tuesday morning.
